It’s a match we all want to see.
Coming off a damn impressive victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor seems to have set his sights on another monumental task. That task? Floyd Mayweather.
During the victory party after making UFC history for simultaneously holding two belts, here’s what Conor had to say about a possible fight with Floyd Mayweather.
“He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. He doesn’t want a fight,” McGregor told the crowd at a post-fight club appearance. “Tell Floyd and Showtime, I’m coming. Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules cause he’s afraid of a real fight.”
While Conor’s words went directly after Floyd, they were nothing compared to UFC President Dana White’s comments. He didn’t hold back, and I’ve gotta admit, watching Floyd Mayweather’s fights, Dana’s comments definitely got me laughing.
“Conor McGregor, if he touches you, you go to sleep,” Dana White told TMZ. “Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands. You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they’re not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight.”
Then Dana took things even further. He went on to defend McGregor while at the same time shitting on Mayweather.
“This kid’s (Conor McGregor) just getting started. This kid’s 28 years old,” White said. “Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He’s special. Floyd’s never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does.”
I have to admit, things are getting quite interesting in the possible buildup to this monumental fight between McGregor and Mayweather. The fact that even Dana White is now giving his two cents and actively going on the offensive against Floyd could suggest that there’s something more in the works than just a back and forth war of words.
Let us know what you guys think. Do you think a fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will ever happen?
