Almost one year after the ridiculous Women’s March that launched thousands of “resistance” Facebook groups, many are calling for a somewhat absurd change for an even stranger reason.
For those lucky enough to miss it last year, the Women’s March was mostly a huge group of predominately middle-aged women who marched in pink “pussy hats” all over the world, but who really haven’t done much more since then other than whine and complain. In other words, they haven’t brought about real change.
But, this time, they’re demanding that one detail of the march be altered – they’re demanding that the pink “pussy hats” be ditched because it’s not inclusive of “women” who may not have pussies, and on top of that, there are women whose pussies aren’t pink.
Yes, they’re serious.
The Detroit Free Press reported:
“This time when marchers take to the streets in cities from Lansing to Las Vegas, there could be fewer pink pussyhats in the crowds.
The reason: The sentiment that the pink pussyhat excludes and is offensive to transgender women and gender nonbinary people who don’t have typical female genitalia and to women of color because their genitals are more likely to be brown than pink.”
And the leader of the march agreed:
“I personally won’t wear one because if it hurts even a few people’s feelings, then I don’t feel like it’s unifying,” said Phoebe Hopps, founder and president of Women’s March Michigan.
“I care more about mobilizing people to the polls than wearing one hat one day of the year.”
On different levels of the organization, she said, they have tried “to move away from the pussyhats for several months now, and are not making it the cornerstone of our messaging because … there’s a few things wrong with the message.
“It doesn’t sit well with a group of people that feel that the pink pussy hats are either vulgar or they are upset that they might not include trans women or nonbinary women or maybe women whose (genitals) are not pink.”
Honestly, lady, as much as I disagree with all the crap you’re pushing for, that’s a stupid move from a marketing standpoint. As annoying as they were, those damn hats were everywhere.
I even saw them in Berlin about a month later being worn by locals in a bar.
In fact, I’m somewhat thankful for them. They were able to tell me which women not to try to chat up for fear of rape charges.
But seriously, how far are you going to take this?
If another group of people says the word “feminism” is oppressive because they are triggered by the words “male” and “female,” are you going to change that word too?
Actually, for trolling purposes, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea for next year…
